Financial Literacy is the key to financial security. As educators, we must answer the call to impart financial education to our students so that they will be equipped with a set of skills and values essential for the journey of life. The Citi-NIE Financial Literacy Hub for Teachers has been offering training programs that empower teachers with basic money management principles and provide pedagogical training for engaging lessons and activities. Together with our growing network of partner schools, we are pleased to celebrate the the success in the drive for financial education in Singapore schools through infusion into core curricula, stand-alone modules, as well as enrichment or post-examination activities, and through other events like carnivals and drama competitions. Schools in Singapore are now more actively imparting financial literacy to students as our schools have benefited from the Hub’s support and funding for training and outreach programmes.

The theme of this year’s 4th Citi-NIE Financial Literacy Conference 2011 is “Empowering Innovation Through Diversity & Synergy”, and aims to further energise and resonate the collaborative efforts of our schools, partners and stakeholders to ensure that the goal of achieving of financially literate community in Singapore schools will achieve even greater success in the years to come.

The Conference will provide opportunities for a synergistic path towards sharing of best practices by schools for schools through education, action, and celebration by giving recognition to the Hub’s partner schools who have successfully implemented financial literacy. The Hub’s model in building capacities and ensuring that there is more mileage out of its efforts, support and funding has proven to work extremely well since its launch. Many teachers who have participated in our programmes, or were involved in one way or another, have gone back to work with their school leaders and colleagues to organise courses and events, not only for their respective schools but also, for schools in the cluster and even at the zonal level. The stories of these school leaders, teachers and students have inspired many. We are indeed most pleased to celebrate this harvest of the Hub’s multiplier model at the upcoming Conference and to support the continued growth of this learning community where innovations will thrive and people are inspired as we spiral up to greater heights of excellence.
